Description

Arc'teryx: Men's Sidewinder SV Jacket - Altrec.com Product Description:

This season, don't just survive big mountain weather, charge right through it with the Arc'teryx Men's Sidewinder SV Jacket. The 480N MG GORE-TEX® 3-layer Pro fabric features a revolutionary Micro Grid woven backer that is very durable, breathable, and allows for reduced seam allowances and narrower taped seams. This makes the jacket lighter and more supple. Laminated construction techniques provide the clean, stylish finish that rightfully gives the jacket its signature Arc'teryx look. After all, Arc'teryx introduced this innovative construction technique to the outdoor industry in 1998, thereby opening the door to a new era of technical outerwear that cuts weight, improves garment strength, and reduces bulk. Additional performance features include two-way pit zips for ventilation, a helmet compatible Drop Hood with stealth brim adjuster, laminated powder skirt to seal out spindrift, and a Recco® avalanche reflector. The Arc'teryx Sidewinder SV Jacket for men offers a roomy, articulated fit for maximum freedom of motion. It gets its name from the Sidewinder™ front zipper that tracks to the side of the chin for optimal comfort.

  • Highly abrasion resistant 480N MG GORE-TEX® 3-layer Pro
  • Helmet compatible Drop Hood with stealth brim adjuster
  • Laminated die-cut Velcro® cuffs

Awesome Jacket Overall great jacket. Performed well on numerous ski trips and look forward to next winter. The only downfall is the curved zipper flaps around if it is not fully zipped while skiing. I highly recommend

Thanks Altrec Thanks Altrec for the killer price of $224.97 for this top of the line Arc'teryx jacket. This is a descent jacket, which means that it is designed for downhill action and as such has a generous fit and a hood that allows a wide field of view and turns with the head so as not to block vision. Because the priority is to keep the visual field open, the hood does not provide maximum face protection from the cold; for that there is the Alpha SV. The Sidewinder hood does fit fairly close to the side of the face when firmly secured with the speed drawstring at the back of the hood, and incidentally there is a convenient loop for stowing the string, but for better face protection you will have to supplement the hood with an Andean style hat or a balaclava; no big deal. The hood fits in a variety of shapes if you play with it; thus you can set it up to a preferred 'look' and for a variety of conditions. The material of the jacket is stiff and makes quite a bit of noise in the hood, but I can live with it and expect it to decrease with use. Personally, I prefer the feel of a jacket with substantiality or heft as opposed to the less durable 2 1/2 layer paclite LT jobbies that fair float away. For those who can't live with the stiffer fabric of the Sidewinder, there is the Arc'teryx Javelin gore-tex soft-tech, but I prefer the Sidewinder sidezipper style (quite apart from its function). The pleated pockets of the Sidewinder are functional in providing room without compression for hand-warming; in addition the height of the pockets means that the arms rest at an unusually comfortable angle. I like the length of the jacket, not short. The zippers close like a Mercedes' door. It is comfortable around the face, neck and wrists. Check out the cut of the cuffs! The snow skirt is unobtrusive, though perhaps metal snaps could be replaced with another closure method in future models. I have not had the Sidewinder long enough to say how it will function under climatic and environmental stress but I have no doubt that there is nothing better on the market that I have seen.

Is this Useful? - Yes - No ( 1 of 2 thought this was useful.)
