I agree with previous I too used with t-shirt around 40 with 25mph winds and rain prior to reading this review and it worked fine.

I don't know how I survived so long without it I love this jacket. I have a Mountain Hardwear Mortise insulated jacket, which is great for the really cold weather, but I needed something for the warmer days. I went to a popular retailer and tried on many different soft shells. I went there wanting a Mountain Hardwear (I really like that brand), but I ended up choosing the Marmot Ultima. The fit was much better and looked better on me. I like that the black is actually a very dark grey. I could only find a couple reviews and they both said this jacket wasn't warm enough for them. I ordered it from Altrec anyway, and I'm pleased. I think the reviewers must have had unrealistic expectations for a soft shell. I've worn this with a layer underneath in weather down to 20 degrees and been fine. Today I wore it with just a T-shirt underneath in 45 degrees and it was perfect. I've also worn it under my Mortise when it was below zero. It's very versatile. It's also super comfortable. We keep our apartment in the mid-60s during the winter, and I wear it around the house a lot. Construction seems solid. Pockets are good for stuff and in a nice position for hands. Highly recommended!
