Expensive but worth it when you're in gelid cold.. Great mitts! I had wanted these mitts for some time, but the price held me back. Then caught them on sale along with a coupon, so I bought them at approx. half retail. One of the best deals I've ever made. Construction is first-rate, thermal properties are outstanding, etc. They got Ed Viestur's endorsement and now I know why.

Tested to -65 I spent a week in Fairbanks Alaska with these Mitts in late December and temperatures ranged from -35 to -65 Fahrenheit. When layered with a thin fleece liner they are excellent. Being large Mitts they are not tactile so if you are expecting to do a lot of photography or need other intricate movement you may want to consider thicker liners but these are more difficult to slip in and out of the mitts. If you know it is going to be cold below -20 I would highly recommend these.

JBV I climbed a 14,000' in January with a friend and he had a pair of Alti's and I had a pair of older Marmot's and my hands froze, his were fine. I borrowed them for about 10 minutes and my hands warmed up enough to get me down. As soon as I saw them on sale on Altrec.com I purchased. They fit to size and feel great, love the liner.

Is this Useful? - Yes - No ( 1 of 2 thought this was useful.)
